Star Wars Movie Confirmed – Mando and Grogu

After a long wait for the next theatrical Star Wars release, a new movie, featuring The Mandalorian and Grogu has been confirmed as going into production this year. This big screen title will expand on the adventures of Din Djarin and Grogu, and will be directed by Jon Favreau, and produced by Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, and Dave Filoni. Noteworthy is that it is separate from Dave Filoni’s Mandoverse movie (sometimes referred to in the fandom as Heir to the Empire, and likely to focus on Thrawn and as the primary adversary, tying together the story arcs of The Mandalorian and Ahsoka) already on the list of upcoming movies, but Filoni will contribute to the script on some level. The fate and potential timing of season 4 of The Mandalorian is unclear – although scripts have been written, if it does eventuate it will possibly follow on after Jon Favreau’s Mando and Grogu movie.

Also confirmed by Dave Filoni is season 2 of Ahsoka, which will likely precede his Mandoverse movie. We also know that Skeleton Crew and The Acolyte will hit Disney+ this year, as will season 2 of Tales of the Jedi and season 3 of The Bad Batch. The next season of Andor is rumoured to return to production this month. The official announcement from StarWars.com also reiterates that Lucasfilm’s ongoing feature-development slate includes the films by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (New Jedi Order/post-Sequel-Trilogy era, starring Daisy Ridley as Rey), and James Mangold (Dawn of the Jedi era).
