Auckland Armageddon Expo 2020; Saturday

Sunny weather saw a huge turnout for the first full day of the Auckland Armageddon Expo in Greenlane today. Masses of eager fans, keen to make use of the long weekend and New Zealand’s reduction in lockdown status, headed in to the ASB Showgrounds to mingle, attend panels (including over 60 guests connecting in for teleconferenced panels), show off their pop culture costumes, game a little or a lot, and/or get stuck into a bit of shopping at the wide range of sci-fi, fantasy, and other geek retailers.

For the first time, the annual Auckland Brick Show, which is usually held around this time of the year, will also be held at the ASB Showgrounds in partnership with Auckland Armageddon. Come and check out a hall full of LEGO displays, historic sets, and custom creations, set up by the Auckland LEGO User Group.

And the other main feature that we’re always keen to see at Geddon conventions is the fandom representation when attendees show up dressed as their favourite movie, television, gaming, or comic book character – including, of course, plenty of unique and fun Star Wars. Not surprisingly, there have been a few characters from The Mandalorian spotted, as well as a gamut of custom-armoured followers of the Mandalorian creed.

We’ll continue our coverage tomorrow, with more pics and info. In the meantime, check out some of the media coverage – News Hub, Stuff.
