Life-Size ‘The Child’ Collectibles – How To Choose
Although they almost certainly hoped for it, it is very likely that the viral popularity of The Child, aka “Baby Yoda”, from Disney’s streaming series The Mandalorian, exceeded even optimistic expectations. As a consequence, almost every where you look at the moment, manufacturer’s that have the license are creating The Child collectibles and putting the image of the little green superstar on products.
If you’d like to have a life-size version of The Child looking over the rest of your Star Wars collection, either fully 1:1 scale, or a near-life-sized large scale, there are a number of options to choose from.
We break down the features, accuracy, and availability of the large-scale The Child statues and figures available to kiwi collectors, below.

The Child – 1:1 Scale Life-Size Statue, by Sideshow Collectibles
We’ve put this hyper-accurate, fully 1:1 scale figure, distributed by Sideshow Collectibles at the top of our list, as it is our definite favourite.
This version measures a full 42cm (16.5″) in height, and is actually crafted by Legacy Effects, the prop company who made the practical version used when filming The Mandalorian. It stands in a fixed pose, but has every detail you’d expect, including hair and a perfectly re-created paint job. The statue stands on a custom base, has a full fabric robe, and holds the Razor Crest control panel knob in his left hand.

The Child – Life-sized Articulated Figure, by Hot Toys
The Hot Toys version of The Child is also a legitimate 1:1 scale figure, measuring 36cm (14″) tall. Distinguishing it from the Sideshow/Legacy Effects version is that it is fully articulated, and even comes with interchangeable ears and hands. He comes with the Razor Crest shifter knob, and also a Mythosaur emblem necklace with black leather strap.
The underlying articulated framework adds to the price of this poseable figure a bit, but it is very accurate – the only downsize, in our opinion, is the visible seam line where the interchangeable ears plug into his head.

The Child – Talking Plush, by Hasbro
Hasbro have a talking version of The Child that is a little under-scaled at 19cm (7.5″), but considerably more affordable. He has poseable arms, fabric cloak, and squeezing his body activates the “vocal sounds”. Also included are a bone broth bowl, and Sorgan frog.

The Child – 10″ Funko Pop! Vinyl Figure
No special features here, just a scaled up plastic version of the first The Child Pop! Vinyl figure from Funko (they’ve since gone on to make a number of other poses and variants). 25.4cm (10″) tall.
This guy’s not the most accurate, of course, but captures the cuteness of Funko’s trademark bobble-head style.

The Child – Animatronic Edition, by Hasbro
This 18cm (7.2″) tall, battery-operated The Child toy by Hasbro packs a lot of features in for the price. As well as sounds that are activated by patting The Child on the head, he features motorised movements, including a head that moves up and down, ears that move back and forth, eyes that open and close, and more. Pat The Child Animatronic Edition’s head 3 times for Force activation, in which the figure will raise its arm, close its eyes, and sigh, as if using the Force!

The Child – Vinyl Plush, by Mattel
The most affordable version of large-scale The Child figures is made by Mattel. This 28cm (11″) plush collectible has a vinyl head, a soft body with a sturdy plastic-bean-filled base, and polyester fabric garments. He comes packaged in a plastic “hover crib”.
