I know....they are defiantly doing a good job in killing off a lot of great franchises! Instead of making one good remake they are just pumping out any old rubbish to make a quick buck :( The new Star Trek movie was probably the pick of the bunch and a movie that I did truely enjoy.

I liked it, The fight between the Trekies was great and the cameos through it were cool as well....Oh and Kristen Bell in the Leia Slave outfit wasn't bad hahaha
Same here. I thought it was nice to see an homage with some real heart.
I totally agree and in fact I watched it with a mate of mine who isn't a SW's fan and he thought the movie was great....I think you could have replaced SW with anything and thats what gave the movie it heart.

Nope, the Star Trek movie is in the same barrel as all the other "remake" / "reboots". It may or may not be a good movie in it's own right, but it's definitely not a "Star Trek" movie because, as usual, they made lots of silly changes which means it doesn't fit with any of the previously established facts.

That's the problem with the "reboot" / "remake" silliness - they steal a basic idea and then butcher it beyond recognition, causing a messy fractured franchise made up of two (or more) sub-franchises. :(

If a franchise is worth adding to, then they should add to it in a fitting way. If a franchise is not worth adding to properly, then they they should make a new franchise where they can do whatever they want. They could have called that movie "Universe Hike (based on Star Trek)" or something.

The reason why I enjoyed the new Star Trek movie is probably because I was never a fan of ST growing up so I was able to watch it without having to 'link' it to past movies/ TV episodes.

According to the micro-review of the third Arthur & the Invisibles (aka Arthur & the Minimoys) direct-to-DVD movie in latest Stack freebie magazine from JB Hi-Fi ...
Arthur & the War of Two Worlds
... The emphasis is on juvenile slapstick, but adults will also get a kick out of it, in particular the George Lucas gag at the end.
Looking it up on a few websites, apparently there's a scene where ...
According to this film, George Lucas was a reporter at the time and got the inspiration for Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977) while interviewing Darkos dressed in a cape and mask like Darth Vader's.

Paul was a movie full of SW references I really enjoyed watching another outing with simon pegg, the alien paul played by Seth Rogan was hilarious! Along with various cameos from people like Sigorney Weaver were also great. In one scene in the movie the FBI agent shoots his CB Radio and says "boring conversation anyway" Also Simon Pegg Wears an Empire strikes back T-shirt for half the movie. All in all I thought Paul was a fantastic watch perfect for any fanboy.

My thoughts on the movie Fanboys? LOVE IT! I searched high and low for a DVD and found one at the warehouse of all places there also were copies at real groovy but I wasn't paying almost $40 for a DVD. Love Billy Dee Williams, Carrie Fisher, Ray Park and Danny Mcbride's Cameos in Fanboys.

Obviously a Star Wars reference, but I wonder if it's also an ET reference for where they replaced the FBI agent's guns in the original with radios in the new releases. :)

The Warehouse can be a great place to find some obscure DVDs, but you do have to spend hours trawling through TONS of them on the tables and at various branches, and often you can only find volume 3 (for example) of a set. JB Hi-Fi also has lots of less common movies.

Yea unfortunately we don't have JB Hi FI in CHCH so warehouse or whitcoulls are the main 2 dvd retailers and we all know how ridiculously over priced whitcoulls is. Trawling through the dvds is part of the fun of the warehouse I think so anyway.

According to the article in the latest JB Hi-Fi Stack magazine, the recent update / remake of Gulliver's Travels has Jack Black's character getting the Lilliputians build him an entertainment room, but because they don't have electricity, the "TV" is really a box where he gets the Lilliputians to re-enact movies, including Titanic and Star Wars ... and Jack Black's character tells the Lilliputians that he wrote those movies based on his own life.
