George Lucas isn't the only one who wants to forget about the Holiday Special ... I wish I could.

Nope, it's not that bad ... it's worse! I've actually got a copy on my computer which I watched once (and that's more than enough!) and shudder every time I see the filename.
To be honest I haven't seen the whole special since I was a kid...I only have the cartoons on my computer...so the memories I have are a bit cloudly so the film seemed great to me and I don't want to ruin them by watching it again haha.
I saw it when it screened on telly. I wouldn't say I blocked it out more let if fade with time. Saw a copy on trademe a week or so ago....not even remotely tempted to get it:)
I just take it for what it was, just a fun TV special, I don't think the intended it to be apart of the SW movie line ....was the copy for sale on Trade Me a bootleg copy?
I saw the Holiday Special when it screened on public TV in the 70s...I certainly was enthralled as a kid. I've watched it more recently as an adult...could only do so with my finger on the Fast Forward button quite a bit. It has elements that are cool to see (mainly seeing props/costumes in different settings etc), but the musical portions, and minute-long segments with no dialog other than Wookiee growls are painful.
I sometimes wonder if some sort of cut-down edit could be salvaged by snipping out the bizarre and trippy scenes, just leaving the cheesy main cast performances and Boba Fett cartoon.
That TradeMe auction should be reported ... the Holiday Special is not legally available for sale anywhere (and never will be), so that's obviously an illegal sale that TradeMe needs to close down.
Debate is the best way to keep things interesting and if nothing the SW Holiday Special has created a lot of debate among the SW community which is why I think it's a great part of the SW universe.
Is it a good example of the vision George Lucas had for SW, probably not, but would we be worse off it if was never made...absolutely!!
I don't know that there's much debate ... it's pretty much univerally hated. Any debate is usually by lucky people who have never seen it saying it can't be that bad ... and then they see it and realise how incredibly wrong they were.
