Looks like this has been officially confirmed.

Really cool that StarWars.com is actually getting info out promptly...it's been a while since they've been particularly relevant when it comes to news.

I guess we can call it "confirmed" once it shows up on StarWars.com, but in the meantime, the latest Mark + Carrie news firms up the presumptions...
The story is said to focus on a new generation of heroes and would feature appearances by Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher in older incarnations of their beloved characters from the original Star Wars trilogy.

Sources have said not to discount the possibility that a number of characters from previous Star Wars films could reappear — even the dead Jedis, who have a habit of showing up in spirit form.

The ONLY way that makes any sense is as a Jedi Ghost as we saw at the end of RotJ and in a similar way to Ben in TESB. Anything else would simply be incredibly stupid - bringing back the Emperor as a clone was a bit silly, bringing back Maul as a cyborg was even worse.

Today's NZ Herald has a large article on page A40 (and may be on the website) discussing various possible directors for the new trilogy.

It's been already reported elsewhere that Steven Spielberg, Quentin Tarantino, and JJ Abrams are not interested (thank goodness!!), but that Jon Favreau (Iron Man, Cowboys & Aliens) is.

lol i agree with you 100% Buzz. I would of liked to see spielberg do at least one movie but a new rising director may put a fresh spin on the films.

I reckon it's Brad Bird, but I'm hoping for Favreau... he is one of my heroes (way before he started directing, too).

I agree the whole clone thing would be lame, but I don't think he need be a ghost or ressurected in some other forced way either. They could simply set some of these new movies earlier in the timeline rather than post ROTJ and then there's no reason why he can't be included.

I basically agree. I'm hoping it's a misinterpretation of the "classic Jedi(?+ Sith) returning in hologram/holocron form" rumours.

Gotta be, and that seems the most likely.
Unless as Rev pointed out they make a film with a timeline that is atleast partially set while Vader is alive.(flashbacks?)

Easiest way to do that without running into aged actor issues would be an EP3.5, with Vader hunting down and murdering any remaining Jedi.

Soooo, yeah nah, Jedi ghosts I reckon.
