Thinking of selling my collection

Post by Fairtex »

I've been thinking seriously on selling our Star Wars collection. Planning on down sizing and focusing solely on Transformers only which has always been our main toy collection.

Still on the fence about it. Not sure if I want to do this or not. Maybe someone might talk me out of it. I've lost the Star Wars collection bug so was thinking of selling that collection and allocating funds I get from that sale towards completing our Transformers collection.

Can you guys give me an estimate value for the entire lot? If this was your collection, how much would you want/expect for it? That should keep some of you busy with something to do :)

Everything loose, complete and in mint condition. Been on display only.

Stock take:

328 figures
Jabba's Throne
x6 speeder bikes
x3 Master Replicas Light Sabres - Vader, Obi Wan, Yoda
x2 Snowspeeders
Vader Sith Ship
Slave ship - Boba & Jango
Grevious Ship
Gunship
X-Wing Fighter
Arc-170 Fighter
Y-wing
Big Millennium Falcon
Turbo Tank
x2 AT-At Walker (1 vintage, 1 with the muddy foot - not sure when this was launched or for what series)
1 Big AT-AT Walker
AT-TE
At-ST x 2
Tie Fighter
Tie Bomber
Naboo Fighter
Jawa beast thingy
A few new vintage carded figures on the wall
Mint in package R2-KT
Talking Yoda
Album with collector coins, nearly completed
6 blocked posters

If I do decide to sell, it will also depend on a number of things like:

1. Selling as an entire collection only. Can't be bothered splitting it up and selling individually
2. Pick up only
3. Price

Wow, thats quite a collection.

To me, the vehicles and posters are highest on the list of interest. You may have a hard time finding someone to buy the whole collection without dropping a fair bit of value, Ive seen the same 4 or 5 collection auctions sitting on Trade Me for what seems like forever.

Mind you, you could do well by doing theme lots of figures, just clones, droids, TCW etc.

Being on display (especially those hanging from the ceiling), they probably need a good dusting ... hope you've got a couple of weeks spare. ;)

Probably the easiest way to sell an entire collection quickly / in one go would be to sell it to somewhere like Brian's Toys that deals in second-hand items. You will get much less than you would listing each item on Trade Me separately, but it would be less hassle.

Your shelving look the same as mine except you have the awesome 3 tier step thing happening. Shame your selling those awesome figures but I guess we all have our reasons.

Loving the block mounted posters. Could be keen too.

Any prop replicas?

I think Buzz is spot on here. It'll be hard to have the convenience of selling the collection as a whole while still getting the best price for all of the items. Your best option is probably to take thehiflyer's advice and sell them in sets.

I'd suggest listing everything here on the boards first too - you should get quite a bit of interest (I know there are a number of items I'd be keen for) and receive fair prices.

You could also try the real-world auction houses like Turners or Dunbar Sloane to sell the items on your behalf (I don't know what their commission is though).

Very nice collection.
I'm going to take a stab at $3500- $4000 sold as a complete lot.
Problems are that you need to find a buyer with the cash, and you'll be losing a ton of money.

Should be able to get a lot more if you split it up. Like has been said already if you list it all here you could likely get fair prices for a chunk of stuff without paying any fees before you move to an auction site.

Oh and at the risk of turning this into an 'i'll buy that if you split the collection up free for all'.....if you have the Solo Twins buried in there somewhere I want em! and I'd pay good money for em too ;)

P.s. and R2-KT
P.p.s and probably a bunch of other figures.

It would probably cost you more than that for your own time to sort it all out, post it on various websites, and pack it up and ship it (plus TradeMe's commision for sale through there). It's the huge amount of time it would take that has stopped me trying to sell off most of my Star Wars toy collection too.

I get the feeling that by the time we were all finished with your collection, there'd be very little left to find buyers for . And you pay 0% commission by listing on here too
