SWNZ Research - KFC, Episode 1, 1999

As with previous research threads, I am trying to fill a couple of gaps in the SWNZ New Zealand Collection articles. The contributions from the 1999 Pizza Hut research thread really helped get a good article together.

This time around, I'm looking for people who remember, or have items from, the 1999 KFC Episode 1 promotion, including the lifesize statue competition. I have the 6 toys that were part of the promotion (and a lifesize Darth Maul), but that's about it.

I'm after a few things, if anybody can help:
- photos of any any advertising material or food packaging
- details of the competition for the lifesize statues (and photos of the lifesize Jar Jar and Yoda)
- details of differences (if any) from parallel promotions run in Australia.

If I remember correctly, this promotion also included a set of 10 trading cards. As far as I can tell, the promotion was pretty much identical to the one run in Australia. I read somewhere that these trading cards were given out in foil packs, so you they were randomly distributed...can anyone remember/verify that?

I'm not sure what the nationwide policy was, but at my local KFC they just handed over a random (unpackaged) number of these cards with each purchase of a family pack. I'm pretty sure I managed to get the full set over the course of a few visits.

I found this KFC Meal Box stored away amongst stuff...I'm assuming it's from the NZ promotion, as it advertises the NZ set of toys. Does anyone remember this particular packaging, to confirm?

Yep, sure do. I've got one of those too. It was used for the kids' 'Buckethead' meals which included one of the Episode I toys.

The cards did come in Silver foil packs
