Conceptually, I can see a two-sided argument, but my understanding is that Ainsworth has been pretty loose with the truth from the start, claiming to have had a hand in the design of Stormtroopers etc, when there is strong evidence that Liz Moore sculpted the helmets, and Brian Muir the body armour. Liz passed away some time ago, leaving room for her role to be more easily contested by third-parties, but Brian is pretty active in fan circles (in the last couple of years). Ainsworth's role was as a contractor to physically vac-form the Stormtrooper (and other) helmets.oota goota wrote:I caught a brief time on tv3 news tonight about this...hmm tricky one I can see both sides of the argument....
It is known that the armour that Ainsworth has been selling (and initially claiming as original) is a composite copied of other fan manufacturers.
Interesting discussion with Brian Muir can be found here:

Re: Stormtrooper Helmet Copyright Infringement Case
yeah I think Ainsworth is probably taking full advantage of Englands copyright laws in order to make a living from a potentially HUGE market
. Also coupled with the custom of prop makers/ masters keeping and recycling old props and moulds and masters etc etc.
But then again who can argue that the stormtrooper is not part of star wars or Lucas' IP?
That's legal systems for you!
I'll check out that link thanks MG
