Naming your car (minor Star Wars connection)

Post by Buzz Bumble »

From the Weekend Herald (Herald Cars, The Good Oil, page F1, 22 January, 2011) ...
Let's hear it for ... Harrison Ford
Owners of Fords in the US like to call their cars "Harrison" after the Hollywood actor, says website webuyanycar.com.

Other favourite nicknames for cars in general are Betty, Betsy and Bess. Almost 56 per cent of those polled by the website said they gave their cars pet names. Bertie, Daisy, Bertha and Meg are popular, as are Charlie, Herbie and Bob. One respondent said he called his car God, as "it moves in mysteriuos ways".

About 60 per cent of women and 41 per cent of men said they felt emotionally attached to their car, while 25 per cent of those shed a tear when they parted company with their vehicle.

Red and blue cars were the most likely to be given a name. Grey and green vehicles pretty much remained nameless.
Despite being "red" my car does not have a name. :)

At Celebration IV, there was a display of Star Wars-themed cars.

This one seemed to be named the "Millennium Falcon"...check out the RH-side wing mirror :)

Speaking of Star Wars cars...I'd probably be okay if this one was forced upon me...

There's numerous cars around with Star Wars paint jobs. How about this Episode I van for Matt ...

But for real customising, how about an X-wing pick-up truck ...

Image

Or a couple of landspeeders ...

Image

I'm not sure if it's the same one, but there is a landspeeder in America like that second one which is street legal and quite a few people have built "real" landspeeders.

Or perhaps a Battlestar Galactica Viper ...

Image

Then there's this Audi hover car concept called the Audi Shark (by designer Kazim Doku too!) that looks like something the Naboo would make ...

Image
(There's more images at the link above, but from other angles it looks less Naboo-like.)

For those without hugemungous bank accounts, there's always the Millennium Falcon windscreen shade from ThinkGeek.com for only US$20 (plus shipping) ...
