Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace in 3D Opening
Lucasfilm and 20th Century Fox announced the release date for Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace in 3D today:
Lucasfilm Ltd. and Twentieth Century Fox announced today that the 3D theatrical launch of Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace now has an official release date – February 10, 2012! Set against the thrilling and exotic backdrop of a “galaxy far, far away,” Star Wars is perfectly suited to the immersive 3D theatrical experience, and Episode I delivers some of the Saga’s most stunning and spectacular sequences – from the Naboo invasion to the Tatooine Podraces to the climactic lightsaber battle between Darth Maul and the Jedi. Supervised by Industrial Light & Magic, the meticulous conversion is being done with utmost respect for the source material, and with a keen eye for both technological considerations and artistic intentions.
It doesn't say, but I'm guessing that's the world-wide release date.
I would have preferred they get on with the live-action TV series rather than wasting time 3D-erising the movies.
I'm the other way because I'd much rather see the movies in 3D then the TV series....the Clone Wars has so many new characters my old brain finds it a bit hard to follow haha I think they may go the same way with the live action show as well??
The problem is that none of the movies were designed or filmed in 3D, so it's going to be largely a pointless exercise for most of the time. Realistically the only way the'll get 3D to be of any benefit is in the CGI bits (pod race, battles) or to add yet more extra scenes.
Apart from one IMAX demo movie, I haven't seen 3D movies ... I'm not even sure if the cinema's glasses work with my prescription ones or if it will make me feel incredibly sick within minutes (like "3D" games on the computer do).
I really hope that don't add anymore 'special' scenes because the originals are good enough and really don't need any more added!!
I went to watch Alice in Wonderland in 3D with my partner and had to take the glasses off because the movie made me feel sick so I'm really hoping they don't go to overboard.

Yeah, I hear ya. But I would love to see some great extra scenes back in the Prequels. There are a lotta cool cut scenes there, that would be awesome for the 3D realease.
