Clone Wars animated series cancelled?

Post by Buzz Bumble »

I'm not sure if the show is actually being cancelled or whether someone has got confused with it ending on Cartoon network, but this is from JediNews.co.uk ...
Ended The Clone Wars Have

I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened.

Although not yet officially confirmed, we’re hearing from several sources tonight that The Clone Wars as a TV show \ series has ended. It’s not yet clear what will happen to the unaired finished episodes, those partway through production or if they will try and tie the show up with a direct to DVD \ Blu-ray movie (something that Disney are known to have done with some of their other properties).

The Clone Wars has graced our screens for the last five seasons over six years and with each new episode the animation, lighting, acting, stories, direction and production kept getting better and better and we’re sure this decision will upset many fans. We don’t believe that it’s ever too late to let our voices be heard as a community and we suggest writing to Bob Iger, Kathleen Kenedy and George Lucas asking for a conclusion, leading into the events of Espiode III, at the addresses below:
  • Bob Iger – Disney Studios, 500 S Buena Vista St, Burbank, CA 91521, USA
  • Kathleen Kennedy – Lucasfilm, P.O. Box 29901, San Francisco, CA 94129-0901, USA
  • George Lucas – P.O. Box 2009, San Rafael, CA 94912, USA
We want to take the opportunity to thank Dave Filoni and all at Lucasfilm Animation for their amazing work, thus far, and to let them all know that we are here with you, together in the Force, willing the continuation of The Clone Wars which will allow fans around the world to know the fates of Ahsoka Tano, Captain Rex, Darth Maul, Asajj Ventress and others.
Even assuming those addresses are correct, writing to George Lucas won't achieve anything.

Thanks for the heads-up Buzz. As an avid watcher of the show, I'm really interested to see if this ends up being true. I know that Season 6 was well into the production phase, but that hasn't stopped shows from being cancelled before.

It's unfortunate though - as the show went from strength to strength in Season 5. That being said, the last few episodes really did culminate in what could be a fitting end for the series.

StarWars.com announcement is up...it's definitely over on Cartoon Network, but not completely "over yet".

So long as they get to provide an appropriate sense of closure for the show, the format is really irrelevant. I had wondered, given some of the noises coming (or not coming) out of LF animation in recent months, whether this mightn't be on the cards. I'm sad to see the show finish as it's wonderful stuff, but I am pleased to see that it is not simply being sliced off at the end of season 5 and unceremoniously called done. This series deserves a send off, so here's hoping Disney gives them an appropriate opportunity and venue to wrap the show up properly.

I'm not sure how long it's been running or what season(s) it is, but I've just noticed in the latest TV Guide that Cartoon Network is advertising "Star Wars" / Star Wars: The Clone Wars in their schedule listings ...
  • Star Wars
    Cartoon Network
    daily at 11:45pm
Whether they are actually playing that or not is of course an entirely different matter thanks to Sky's hopelessness!

As a side note, for those with the Sky Movies Classics channel, the original 1976 Logan's Run movie is playing this week too (6:35pm, Friday, 19 July and 12:45am, Saturday, 20 July).

Star Wars Underworld reports that at a convention in Poland, some "Clone Wars" updates were presented. A trailer was shown advertising The Lost Missionsairing on Disney XD in early 2014. They'll consist of what appears to be more than 10 episodes.
Visit the website if you want to read descriptions of the episodes (translated from Polish, so a bit difficult to understand in places).

10 episodes? That's a decent amount of content.

Reportedly the unaired episodes of The Clone Wars series will be released as a comic book (possibly in addition to other formats). This is from Newsarama (via ComingSoon.net) ...
The ending of Star Wars' Clone Wars is shrouded in mystery, both in-story and in real life. In March 2013 Lucasfilm announced that the long-running animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars would be cut short, robbing fans of the intended finale of that CGI series. Since then, various personnel at Lucasfilm have talked about potential outlets the final episodes' story could be told, either as televised episodes, online content, or possibly a DVD release. But now in an exclusive to Newsarama, Lucasfilm has told us the finale to Star Wars: The Clone Wars is being told as a comic launching this May. This doesn't preclude the fully produced episodes from still airing somehow, but does let fans jump right to the ending and the unproduced final arc.

In this last year of Lucasfilm's epic decades-long partnership with Dark Horse Comics, the Oregon-based publisher will be releasing a four-part limited series titled Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir that will adapt the screenplays for what would have been the series finale of Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series. Written by seasoned Star Wars comics scribe (and former editor) Jeremy Barlow with an artist to be announced, Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir sees the full-scale return of Darth Maul to the Star Wars universe and into a head-to-head battle with his former master Darth Sidious – aka, the Emperor. Barlow promises to fully delve into the world of Dathomir, as well as some of its inhabitants like Nightbrothers and even a new character called Brother Viscus. Barlow spoke exclusively to Newsarama in our "Galaxy Far Away" Star Wars column.

Yeah, the comic will be an adaption of a Darth Maul arc that would've aired in Season 6. It's nice to see that story in some form and hopefully other Clone Wars scripts will find a home in comic form, although in a perfect world Disney would produce special Clone Wars movies as spin-off films or television specials.
