Buried in the programming schedule for CVI was something labelled "Calling All Kids!" It appears to have been completely ignored by the fan site media, most of whom even now are totally ignorant that this even happened, but what it turned out to be was 80 minutes of what was either a brand new CW multi-episode arc or a new SW tv altogether!

Those that attended (who had to be 12 years or younger, or accompanied by a child if they were an adult), witnessed a fully finished animated feature finished in the style and to the level of the Clone Wars series. Dave Filoni presented it. Clone Wars voice artists and a number of characters were featured so it seems to be set during that time period, but the story focussed on a group of young padawans and their adventure.

There was no Clone Wars intro news reel or music from what I have read, so if it was a series of cut together episodes, they removed any CW branding from it. Additionally, at least one attendee said he recognised none of the shots from the Season 5 Clone wars trailer as being from this arc. You would expect to see some of the same shots if thsi were part of season 5, right?

When I talked to Dave Filoni at SDCC, he told me that he was working on something that would be more child skewed than CW, which he admitted had drifted towards being much darker and grimmer than something little kids would watch. He knows I have younger kids who love SW, hence why he brought it up. At the time I assumed this was something that wouldn't kick off until after CW was all done, but I think it's safe to say he was referring to Young Jedi.

Soooo, when will the rest of us get a look? Will this be a tv special coming later this year? Is it destined for a DVD release? Is it the beginning of a new show or will it just be part of season 5 of CW after all? Intriguing! They've been very mysterious, but what a delightful surpirse if you were a kid at CVI.

Unfortunately, no...we had to miss great chunks of the convention (everyone did) due to the sheer volume of programmed events.

We intended to make it to several of the children's panels and the family room, but like Matt said, there was just so much going on that we missed a lot of events we had planned. I am keen to hear/see more about this though

When asked, here's what Dave Filoni had to say about it: "Yes, Young Jedi is an idea we have for something aimed at kids, a test of sorts, but we’ll see how it develops."

Sounds as if they're playing this one pretty close to their chests.

I too had to miss huge parts of the con that I had planned on. Too much to do in such a small amount of time.

And then there's the problem of having to kidnap a child to get in.

So, a story arc contained in The Clone Wars, but potentially planting the seed for a more kid-friendly series as the actual/original Clone Wars series continues to get a bit darker. I reckon that could work.
