DragonCon 2011

Post by MattG »

As some may have noticed, Kristy and I are over in the US at the DragonCon convention. It's a very large, 4+ day event with a very strong costuming focus. I've been posting a lot of photos on the SWNZ Facebook page, but thought I'd share some of the highlights here too, particularly the more Star Wars-oriented pics and details.

To get the ball rolling, here are a few of my favourite photos so far:

Thanks. The McQuarrie Vader was a beautiful piece of work.

The highlight of this morning was meeting Carrie Fisher, and getting her autograph. Surprisingly, because of the way things are organised at this con, we only stood in queue for 10 minutes.

We saw her a couple of times...she was talkative and friendly to the fans. We'd just come running from the Star Wars Costume Contest, and Kristy, genuinely by sheer coincidence, was still in her Princess Leia costume, which Carrie thought was great.

On the topic of the SW Costume Contest, here are a few photos of the various category winners from that event. The Wookiee Snoova (from the 'Shadows of the Empire' realm) won overall, justifiably.

Nice one!

Kristy, you look fabulous! Hope you're having/have had a wonderful time. That's a con I have long wanted to attend but never made it to yet. Travel safe and we look forward to seeing more pictures when you're back and rested.

Cheers guys.

Just getting organised to come home today. We have many hundreds of photos to sort through yet, but here are a couple of pitcures-of-pictures of the celebrities we had photo shoots with (Carrie Fisher, Christopher Lloyd and Stan Lee).

Finally recovering from the lack of sleep - we had a great time at Dragon*Con, so much bigger than when we were there in 2009.

My first stop on Friday morning was the Her Universe stand, and picked up their latest items - purple SW logo shirt, Rebel logo earrings, and their charm bracelet - I got the Rebel logo, Imperial logo, and convention exclusive Naboo logo charms :)

I only took one Star Wars costume, but tried to get to as many SW-related events as I could - I did a shift at both the Rebel Legion & 501st Legion fan tables, entered the SW costume contest, went to the 501st/RL mixer, talked to Star Wars artist Jason Palmer, and got to meet Carrie Fisher twice! :D She was lovely - and pulled us both in close for our photo with her :)
