It's back, no one bid the first time so he's trying it on again:

Wonder if we could complain to trademe admin about it?
I just hope no one falls for it and buys it

So while this attempt at fraud is just funny for anyone in the know, I was wondering what the funniest piece of fake Star Wars merchandise is that anyone's seen? There were some crappy Mexican action figures made that looked like they had used original Kenner figs as molds for - with no articulation etc that I can remember. Oh yeah and someone stuck a mid 90s POTF Han's head onto a Stormtrooper body and tried to pass it off as a Han in Stormtrooper disguise once. It nearly worked but on close scrutiny whoever it was had used a black marker to give Han his Stormtrooper collar. Fail!

perhaps keep posting questions asking about how different this one is from the real one, at least it'll have an unanswered question the entire auction?

his answer to it not being like the one pictured is ;
toys were developed though many stages of production.it was uncommon for only 1 prototype to be made. several designers would submit prototypes for approval. the source which I obtained this from & the use of modified parts from other kenner toys is a good enough start for me. i guess it would be possible to have this authenticated, but that cost + a premium would be passed onto the buyer. I notice you buy & collect the new star wars toys - are you hoping for a return on investment one day.

So in effect he didn't answer your question at all just tried to say if he got it authenticated it would cost more? Classic subterfuge if you ask me.

Hard to be 100% sure based on small photos, but it looks like the jumpsuit, chest box, boots, and flak vest are all from the 1997 Kenner/Hasbro "Collector Series" Luke. They have the same coarse details like the oversized fit of the flak vest, and the large forearm and neck closure tabs on the jumpsuit. The tubes plugged in to the chest box are replacements of an unknown source though.

yes well i replied saying that if i were put down that kind of money i'd like to be sure it was real.
but it isn't really that high of a price if it were one of a kind, so it does seem shifty.
as i mentioned in the other thread i don't really collect vintage.. but i understand not wanting to be ripped off.

well i put in another question we'll see if he bothers answering it or not.
"Hi, i've done a little research, there is a figure from 1996/7 which looks similar in design with slightly closer colours however it isn't a complete match. you mentioned mixed parts perhaps it is a mis-match custom of an older base and newer cloth covering, what date did you buy it? Thanks, sorry to be such a bother i just want to be sure, what kind of price is finding out by the way?"
It is possible he got scammed but he did say in his reply "it was from a trusted source" so its more likely he's in on it, if it is fake.
or perhaps it is a body of a prototype with pieces of others.

Its funny you say that as there's a guy on in the UK on ebay selling repro boxes for 12'' vintage toys and he does custom boxes like Luke Xwing Pilot. He even suggests putting in the 1997 version in the box or even interestingly, suggests putting those clothes and accessories onto a vintage Luke. Exactly what I think is on trademe.
