Display shelf madness

So, there was a rumour that some people might be visiting some time in the near future. So this morning I went and bought 8 x 8 cubby shelves. 240kg of flat pack furniture. Am going to empty my office/display room and do a ground up reorg. Going to be a very, very busy boy. And tired.
Just some maths here. I reckon I can fit 4 figures per shelf, times 10 shelves (utilising the tops), so that should be 320 12 inch figures...

Just keep them out of reach of little kids and pets. When it was a puppy, our dog destroyed a wooden eggcup off a low bookshelf and a soft-toy poodle (somehow off the top of a set of drawers!), both of which my grandmother had sent me when I was little. :(

The sun is another issue. It can turn some plastics yellow and fade colours, even when the items aren't directly in the sunlight.

Oh, don't worry, daylight is not permitted in my office.
I am considering sheets of acrylic on the front, not sure how to fix them, maybe screws at the top and a track at the bottom, to keep out the dreaded dust more than anything. (any tips on where to get a suitable material for a reasonable price would be appreciated)
Have built three of the units so far, will start the retreat from moscow with the figures tomorrow. I think I have room for six cabinets built in the holding area.
Once the existing shelves and cabinets are empty, they come out, flooring comes up, and maybe even paint the walls (was even considering relining to get insulation in the walls). This is no trivial matter.

A quick Google search turns up suggestions from other people for Bunnings and Mitre10 for plastic sheets.

320 figures....is that planning ahead, or is that based on current stock counts?

Sounds like a great project either way...might as well get everything out in an organised display.

320...Hmmmm. That would be just under half the posable 12 inch stock....

I do have some display space elsewhere, and I will retire a couple of cabinets to other rooms and use them. Also, a considerable amount of items are retired in boxes (like a ton of hasbro stuff, where I have better sideshow examples, that sort of thing). I am thinking the change will be a net gain of considerable proportions, around 50 pieces.
Also, I will try to actively rotate figures, temporarily retiring them so that they all get displayed sometimes. Not the favourites, of course.
My office is currently a hodge-podge of cabinets and shelves (about nine different ones, and a couple are particularly ugly).
The scale of the task terrifies me, but I am really looking forward to the end result.

Ha! I second this. Always awesome to see these kinds of displays going together.
