Got the air vent grill of my holden kingswood colour matched and painted today. And do you know what the guy wanted in payment? A BOX OF BEER!!!!! This was a professional panelbeaters that does high quality work and the shop foreman looked at what I wanted him to do and asked for BEER!!! BEER I tell you!
Is that not the coolest thing? It's that kind of culture that makes this country a wonderful place to live...

Beer (or anything other bartered payment) is tax free.
If he buys beer for his workers at the end of each week, or something, then getting you to pay for it is a good way to do it and dodge the taxman.
Unfortunately that can't work all the time since you do need money to buy things.

Beer crates are also a litle tougher to fit in the back pocket.
Awesome though! I've had a few similar situations myself and somehow it always feels friendlier than handing over the folding stuff.

"Folding stuff"?!? I have no idea what that is. I use a credit card for almost everything and then pay off the entire bill each month.
I'm just about to try and get my car fixed at the panelbeaters, which will cost nearly $2000. Unfortunately for the panelbeater, I don't think insurance companies pay out in beer (assuming the insurance company will actually pay for it at all!).

I'm a fan of the above currency. Not just beer though.....
Yesterday I found myself leaving a job with a case and a half of delicious red wine in my back seat

Ha ha cool pic Archon!
Maybe payment by beer needs to have an upper limit I'm not saying you should pay for EVERYTHING this way but every now and again is nice

I won't embed but this video talk about alternative currency. Tide is perhaps the more ironic one....
(I can be bribed/paid in large size Gutterman and Metrosene threads, packets of needles and pins.)
