I'm sure someone else somewhere on the web has already picked up on this, but that Imperial Freighter looks awfully familiar...

Good spotting. I like this vehicle, and its TIE-carrying functionality.

Of course it "looks familiar" after you Photoshop it into Episode I.Archon Revuge wrote:I'm sure someone else somewhere on the web has already picked up on this, but that Imperial Freighter looks awfully familiar...

Re: 'Star Wars Rebels' animated series
Wasn't the Gozanti Cruiser always in Episode 1 Buzz, or am I misremembering that? It was designed for Ep 1 at the very least, and we also saw it in Episode 2, but I thought it had always been in the first prequel film as well?
Anyhow, the new ship from Rebels is indeed based on Doug Chiang's old Ep 1 design. In his slideshow presentation Pablo Hidalgo showed the old Gozanti cruiser for direct comparison, acknowledging that it was the design genesis for this new ship. He said it was designed to fill the size gap between TIEs and Star Destroyers, something mid-sized, so it takes its broad queues of the Gozanti ship but with some Star Destroyer DNA spliced in there two (the wings, engines, scribed details and sandwiched greeblies down the midline of the ship, etc). It has TIE docking tubes and serves to extend the range of those short range fighters. I like the connection, personally. It makes sense to me that certain design chasis would be ubiquitous and see use in many specialized forms across decades or longer, and in both military and civilian applications.
You can find the full gallery of images from Pablo's NYCC slideshow here and a friend of mine who was there has an audio recording of the event. It's about 18MB in size, but if anyone wants me to e-mail a copy to them I would be happy to share it. Just flick me a PM with your e-mail address.

Pics of the new Rebel Astromech, "Chopper" are pretty much everywhere today, but I'll post them here for the sake of discussion.
Interesting to see the McQuarrie-esque gripper arms etc in the design.

"Chooper"?!? More like "Chopped" ... or to misquote Princess Leia: "Aren't you a little short for an astromech?"MattG wrote:Pics of the new Rebel Astromech, "Chopper" are pretty much everywhere today, but I'll post them here for the sake of discussion.

R2-D2 has had arms at times, but not coming out of his head.

He reminds me of B.O.B from The Black Hole, just not as beat up as he was.
