There's a chance that the new movies could be murdered sure, but I'll take that chance over the other option ie no new movies ever
If they're rubbish we can fall back on the originals like we have before.
I'm excited. Bring on 2015!!!
agree it is growing on me the more i discuss it, bring on the new movie cant wait
bring on rogue one, episode 8 and what ever else they have in stall for us

Yes, I think this is pretty much the position I've settled down to. The prospect of new material is exciting, and I'm looking forward to new info and details leaking out over the next couple of years.

I'd be happy with more spin-off movies (if done properly and fit with the rest of the existing franchise), but leave the Saga as it is. I can't see any sensible way of adding to it - there's no baddie, so they would have to invent a new one and give some half-baked explanation as to why he wasn't in the previous movies ... unless of course they're setting up for a fourth, fifth, etc. "trilogy".
A few "interesting" quotes from various forums and message boards ...
Rick McCallum must be spinning furiously in his grave. He no doubt died of shock after being kicked to one side as the obvious and sensible successor.
At least there's been no talk of an inane "reboot" ... yet!
Those wanting a more adult Star Wars are probably well out of luck now. If you thought Jar Jar and Ewoks were childish additions, then you could be in for a shock.
No mention of the fifth Indiana Jones movie ... on the bonus side, no mention either of Howard the Duck 2, Tucker 2, Star Wars Holiday Special 2013 ... yet!.
Pixar is re-joining the other Lucas-created companies. Maybe that'll mean we'll get Finding Greedo, Droid Story, Lars, and Rancors Inc..
As well as their own characters, Disney already own The Muppets ... look out for even more crossovers ... Mickey and Donald meeting Kermit and Miss Piggy in Mos Eisley background of the Super Special Edition of Episode IV.
No more 20th Century Fox fanfare at the start, instead we'll get Disney's cartoony twinkling logo followed by "It is a time of great conflict in the galaxy ..."
That's the end of the cute "CARTOON NETWORK" promo ad.
M, I, C ... See you real soon.
K, E, Y ... Why? Because we want all your cash.
Do we REALLY want to see geriatric Hammil and Fisher on-screen again?! Or even worse, have their characters being done by someone else!!
Anyone who thought George Lucas was king of the merchandising ain't seen nothin' yet. Fan collectors who stay with this franchise had better start seriously saving now, because this is going to get (even more) hugely expensive!
There's a brief article in today's NZ Herald (doesn't say much) and this is the editorial cartoon:

YES!! I reckon that would be awesome! Luke Skywalker as an obi wan kenobi type character, Leia doing the mon mothma thing. There is HEAPS of scope here. anyone seen that film Robin and Marion? Excellent example of characters in older age ummm bracket.....
I must admit i dont normally post much on the forums but cant resist on having a say here.
I couldnt get over the news yesturday and was speechless all day. Today i had to take a day off to myself to go through all the news and try and wrap my head around it all and im still speechless
Im excited about more movies. For me any star wars is good star wars.
Heres a thought and im not sure if it has been said on here yet or not. But could this possibly mean more pre episode 1 movies at a later date? The great sith war perhaps? I guess we will have to wait and see.
It would be great to see Han and Leia's kids on the big screen Proving their worth.

I think it's pretty much official that the next 3 films will form a trilogy, but the implication is that subsequent films after that (every two years!) could fall anywhere on the timeline...I agree that there are lots of points in the chronology that would be great to explore, including quite early in the history of the galaxy.

As a big Kotor/SWTOR fan, I would love to see a film made during the early era - like about Darth Revan, or the Mando Wars etc I've already seen a FB set up in support of a film set in the Old Republic era It's before the rule of two, so there's sith & jedi everywhere, and lots of room to move story/time-line wise.
Disturbance in the Force
Film blogger Dominic Corry takes a look at Disney's purchase of LucasFilm and the Star Wars franchise. Is this a bad or a good thing for Star Wars fans? Read it at nzherald.co.nz/entertainment after 12:00 noon.
It should still be available today, but the Herald's website is woefully bad via dial-up andcrashes my web browsers.
Plus, in today's paper there's a full page article on page 4 of The Business magazine section (and no doubt online as well).

Oh yes! Definitely! Done well we will be able to see what the years have brought since the end of the Empire.
That said I have reservations about the whole IP issue (apparently Fox still owns rights to a specific format of the OT) as this has also happened with Marvel. And those who work in the absorbed companies.
Other than that I am excited to see new movies on the horizon even if I am aware they are likely to essentially reboot the post OT era. TW has already rewritten so much... sith tattoos, sigh. Anyway..
Just so you know, 20th Century Fox doesn't own any of the IP, but they do have distribution and mechanical rights of Episodes I through VI up 'til 2020 (they'll have Star Wars forever, though).
