I made up two hinge pieces and drilled these out, and glued then to the "base/Lid piece. I the primed and painted the MDF and when this was dry, I glued it to the 'base/lid'

Thanks oota goota. And 'pecka boo'... And as I have a short neck, there is going to be a bit of 'bumping' going on when the chin hits the front of the front armor and the ears hit the shoulder straps. Still, "bring it on!" I say. It will only add to the normal 'wear and tear' of everyday use in the service.

Those ears seem a little steeply angled. Maybe try heat bending it a little so that they line up better?

Thanks for the positive feedback guys. Next step was installing the foam padding. As luck would have it, I had some dark grey in the garage that I had from 3 years ago( I knew it would come in handy sometime.) I cut it into strips and began fitting it in and putting the helmet on as I go so I could get a feel for comfort and ease of sight through the eyes. When this was done I installed the fans and wiring. Got the wiring round the wrong way to begin with, but after consultation with an Electrical company in town, I found that I had put the switch in the wrong circuit. After they put it in correctly for me, I went home and soldered this in and finished putting it in.
I then put green film that Blaxmyth had given me, into the eyes.
