It would be neat to have more SWNZ members playing

Several of us are on the US West Coast server 'The Harbinger' (bigger population than the Pacific servers, and no difference in lag). The free-to-play option (up to level 50 etc) is coming soon, but if you'd like to start playing now, I can send an invite for the free trial (up to level 15) that is currently available. If there's anything you'd like to know, ask away here

Okay ...
- Where's the Mac version?
- Will they pay for me to get a new Mac to play it?
- Will they pay for me to upgrade from dialup to fibre broadband to play it?*
- Will they pay all my bills so I can sit around playing the game all day?
* Technically both Orcon and useless Vodafone are offering free deals at the moment, but I'm not sure if it will work with my ancient computer and it will still be hideously expensive when the free period ends in November / December.

That's quite an insightful summary.
I have to admit that I had some apprehension about TOR's move to a Free-To-Play model, mainly because of a very vocal, contrary minority on places like the official
SW:TOR forums, but it does seem to be more of a marker of the current business trends without necessarily having the negative connotations it might have had a few years back. In game, player satisfaction remains high, and although I'm normally hesitant to fork over subscription cash on an ongoing basis, I'm quite happy to keep paying at this stage (as with other MMO games, there will be two tiers of population...subscribers and F2Pers, with the difference being convenience and cosmetic features, rather than features that give you "pay-to-win" advantages).
In fact, as with others, I'm looking forward to getting more character slots to expand my gaming. This is my current (or at least recent) character array

That would be great thanks Kristy! Thank you for the very kind offer
Do you know if it's possible to carry on with your free-trial character once you purchase a subscription (or the free-to-play option kicks in)? Or do you instead have to start from scratch with a new character? (Google doesn't seem particularly helpful at answering this question.)

Once you've created an account, with any changes up from a trial to a subscription, your account, characters and progress remain intact -

The same applies once the F2P model becomes available -

Send Kristy a PM with your email address (pretty sure that's needed for a "Friend's Trial").

Great! Thanks for that Matt

Thanks to Kristy, I now have a copy of the free trial of SWTOR (which I plan on upgrading when the game goes free-to-play). Unfortunately, I seem to be having some problems getting started. The game installs fine, and I can log in without any hassle. Things go a bit pear-shaped once patching begins however. The first few downloads come through fine, but then the patching freezes at one particular point (namely when there are 11.57GB of 'Main Assets 1' remaining).
I've reinstalled twice now, but the same problem keeps on happening. I've had a look online, and there seem to have been a few problems with this sort of thing - though no clear description of why it is happening or the best solution to it.
Have any of you experienced a similar problem in the past?

Probably stating the obvious, but have you run through the official help center?

Thanks Matt

I have been through those fixes, so I think I'll try another reinstall and a new internet connection and see if that solves the problem. If not, I'll get in touch with Customer Service.
