The details for the NZ release are now officially confirmed (thanks for the heads-up Hadleigh!), and include free server transfers for existing characters. I've covered the details here: http://swnz.dr-maul.com/index.php#20120215
'STAR WARS: THE OLD REPUBLIC' LANDS IN AUSTRALIA, NEW ZEALAND, HONG KONG AND SINGAPORE ON MARCH 1. After a successful release in North America and Europe, BioWare, a Label of Electronic Arts announced today that the fastest growing subscription MMO ever, Star Wars: The Old Republic, will be officially launching in Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Singapore on March 1, 2012. Fans in those regions will be able to play the critically-acclaimed massively multiplayer online game on regional servers, enjoying the story-driven experience that has captivated gamers worldwide. Players in these countries who currently have or have had an active Star Wars: The Old Republic account prior to February 28, 2012 will have the opportunity to request a free character transfer for a limited time to an Asia Pacific server after the launch on March 1, 2012. All players who qualify for a character transfer will be notified in early March with more details. ...

I'm not sure if I'll set up new toons on the regional server or transfer. I generally am online during quiet times as it is.

Well the Oceanic servers have officially launched and I poped on over to them to check them out.

I had a stable 50ms ping while in the new servers and there were a lot of players in the area.

The server transfers dont open up until late april for those wanting to change there mains over...I for one will be staying on The Habringer server with my guild as I got 154ms over there which is totally playable.

Oh and im totally suprised too have not heard about any kind of launch events over here.

Thanks for the update :) I may create a test toon and then wait for the transfers to open up. Not sure why there is such a delay.

Hmmm...I might do a test/backup character on one of the new servers.

Are all the servers at the same physical location?

Hi guys,

I looked into a launch event for TOR in NZ, but the general consensus across the industry is that anyone that really wanted the game will have it already :(Unfortunate yes, as I know most of the people here wouldve been keen to be involved.

Cheers

I think they are based in Sydney :)

I have been following Aus. game retailers and EA community people... nope nothing here. Nor Oz. The only recent activity was an ME3 launch in Sydney. I don't think NZ is considered enough of a market for an event. Or we simply were too quick to get on the game and they figured we wouldn't need one.

I know there were feelers put out even before the initial launch for TOR costumes in Oz but it looks like nothing came of it. I was going to be contacted in that case as well.

Hah, I see Hads bet me too it ;) So yeah.. sigh. I think there is a wider potential market and could at least have something at Armageddon....
