Assuming they get big screen treatment. I was so excited to take my daughter to TPM in 3D last year, given she had never seen a SW movie in the cinema before and it was playing at the Embassy, the biggest screen in Wellington, only it wasn't. It turned out to be the tiny 20 or so person cinema buried underneath the big one, and even then it was barely half full. It was a major come down.
I hope ROTS at least gets a proper screening on the massive screen. There certainly wasn't the enthusiasm for TPM. I doubt there will be for AOTC, but ROTS seems to be more generally liked.
I guess I'm not surprised, though I am disappointed. Releasing Ep1 first wasn't the best idea, should have been the OT if they wanted good box office results. I was looking forward to taking our daughter to see 2 and 3, she was too young to see them on the big screen originally. But I'm sure fans are glad to hear they are really putting a lot of energy and focus into the new films.
From a collector's standpoint, I was hoping for figures/collectibles of characters from Ep2/3 they haven't done yet, like they did with Ep1 (still so many Padme outfits that have never been made as figures).
Pretty much a foregone conclusion thanks to the rather dismal, but unsurprising, reception Episode I 3D received. When they announced the rush-job for the next two Prequel movies in 3D I realised the Original Trilogy was unlikely to be happening.
Originally the plan was to release each of the Saga movies in 3D in separate years. Then they made the anouncement of rushing the rest of the Prequel Trilogy out this year instead.
You're counting the years but not the months there Buzz. The original plan was to have Feb releases, like TPM (TPM Feb 2012, AOTC Feb 2013, ROTS Feb 2014), which meant that when things changed AOTC was actually delayed by seven months rather than brought forward, and ROTS was only bumped up by four months, but still with 18 months of lead time. Considering movies are post converted to 3D in a matter of weeks normally, that can hardly be called a rush job by anyone's definition.
Of course, it's all moot now since they've been shelved. According to rumour that actually has more to do with Fox's distribution rights than anything else, despite what the press release might say. While it's speculation, that makes some sense to me. Disney doesn't stand to collect off the 3D releases, so I could see them being disinclined to be bound to supporting and resourcing a plan made before their acquisition of LF that benefits another company.
