Just announced: Attack of the Clones 3D and Revenge of the Sith will be released in theaters back to back in 2013. Episode II is scheduled for release on September 20th while Episode III on October 11th.
That means less time to wait for the Original Trilogy!

A little bird had let slip to me this was happening a while ago. Chalk me up as of the opinion this is a good idea. Let's face it, the notion of the prequels in 3D just doesn't have any magic. Ask your average joe on teh street and they'd probably tell you they were released in 3D already. It's just not particularly exciting. The classic trilogy though - that should excite some dormant fandom, I would think/hope. Let's burn through AOTC and ROTS, making the most of them both in a smaller marketing window where they'll help eachother, then get past them as quickly as possible and get onto the classics.

My guess would be that the release of Episode I 3D was a bit of a dismal failure, so they're rushing the others through just to get rid of them. The Original Trilogy may take a bit longer to 3D-erise. I can't say I'll be bothering to watch them in supposed-3D, I'll just go and watch them in a normal 2D cinema.

I think this is largely true. Having said that, Juliet is looking forward to seeing the rest of the prequels on screen, as General Grievous is her favourite character and she hasn't seen EP3, in particular, in the theatres yet.Reverend Strone wrote:... Re: EPII and EPIII both in 2013
That's actually a really good point Matt. For the younger generation, this is still a big deal, but I imagine to a certain degree it still requires motivating parents enough to get their kids to the cinema. I agree though, teh big cinema expereunce for new fans is nothing to be sniffed at.
I know I am really looking forward to taking my eldest daughter to see them in the cinemas. AOTC is her favouriet SW movie, no doubt because it most strongly resembles TCW, which is really the core of her image of what SW is. She has yet to see ROTS and doesn't know some of the stuff that happens in it, like the Palpatine/Sidious revelation. I am wondering whether we watch it on Blu Ray before the end of this year, as I had planned, for fear that her friends may yet spoil the surprises as they did the fact that Vader was Anakin, or hold off and let her experience it in the cinema for the first time in 2013?

Definitely ... but it's questionable whether seeing them in the supposed-3D is a good idea, or just in normal 2D (hopefully there are 2D sessions this time too).Reverend Strone wrote:... I agree though, teh big cinema expereunce for new fans is nothing to be sniffed at.
