My carded vintage figures (MattG)

Post by MattG »

Since there seems to be some level of interest for vintage Kenner figures on these forums :) , I thought I'd start a thread to catalogue my (small, but hopefully growing) collection of carded Kenner specimens.

None of these, unfortunately, are from my childhood collection (but a proportion of my loose figure collection is, and I still have nearly all of my original cardbacks).

First up is a stormtrooper. This is one of my favourites as a stormtrooper was the very first action figure I owned, back in 1978. It's punched, but in pretty nice condition (with just a bit of edge-wear on the back), on a ESB41B card (41 individual figures, Dagobah Playset, Darth Vader Collector Case etc). I love the image used on the front of this card...a stormtrooper famous for not having the characteristic stripes on his cheek tubes.

As an aside, I've also photographed it against the Gentle Giant 2010 Jumbo version of the same figure.

Next up is R2-D2 with Sensorscope, on the pretty common ROTJ65B card (65 figures in group photo including Chief Chirpa and Logray visible, Chewbacca Bandolier, Y-Wing Fighter and C-3PO Collectors case - external reference pic).

Matt the Stormtrooper looks amazing (if you could see my face now you'd notice it's green with envy haha)

By any chance do you have a carded Admiral Ackbar? He's definatly one I would love to own MOC.

*Note. My partner just found one for sale on a chinese site for $22NZ (which I thought was a good price) so I grabbed him and now can't wait for him to arrive, yay the internet!!*

No, I don't have a carded Ackbar - so look forward to seeing pics of yours (maybe in the "Haul" thread) when it arrives.

Will get more photos of my carded collection sorted shortly.

Here's my ESB Bossk - he's one of my lower grade carded figs, with a dinged bubble and a bit of battle-damage to the card, but it's the only ESB45A cardback (with the Action Figure Display Arena offer) that I have. Plus, it's an ESB character on an ESB card, which raises it's value to me.

Ideally, I prefer to get carded figs without price stickers, but it is always interesting to see what they originally went for ($2.44 at Walmart, in the US, in this case).

Wow, now that really does take me back :) I didn't have any and neither did my brother but my cousins had a great collection. So it was always a treat to go visit.

Cool; I'm glad others enjoy seeing pics of the old stuff as much as I do.

I've updated my R2 post above with a pic of the back of the card...you'll see it's a bit of a misprint.

"X-Wing Fighter Pilot" Luke is probably my second favourite carded figure that I have - I love the pic on the card front. The card is a ROTJ65B (same as R2-D2 a couple of posts up).

Lobot is seen here on an ESB card with a Free (Boba Fett) Coin offer sticker. This is actually a bit of a rarity, as this sticker offer was promoting the new (at the time) POTF Collector Coins, and is usually found on ROTJ cards.

The cardback is an otherwise fairly common ESB41D, which has the same products as the ESB41B (see the stormtrooper card above), but the figures are in a group photo rather than individual photos.
