I was searching through some of my old sci-fi and related magazines looking for some reference material for another forum, and I stumbled upon some of my pre-1980 issues. I love the articles and spoilers that crept out slowly after 'Star Wars' in 1977 (including the way ESB was referred to as 'Star Wars II'), remembering the anticipation well.
This 1979 issue of 'Dynamite' touts a preview of the next Star Wars film...it doesn't have any photos, but does talk of Billy Dee Williams "who'll play the boss of a mining operation in space", and of the location filming in Finse ,Norway. It mentions that SPFX lead John Dykstra "jumped ship to work on Battlestar Galactica", to be replaced by Brian Johnson, whose CV includes 2001: A Space Odyssey, Space 1999 and Alien.

This Dec 1977 issue of Electronics Today International had some behind the scenes pics that haven't appeared elsewhere since:

Re: Pre-ESB magazines
Wow, what fantastic pictures Matt! Those views of the internal workings of the LIN droid are particularly cool. I don't think I've ever seen an image of that droid with the dome lifted before. Great find!
