DeAgostini 'Build the Millennium Falcon'

Post by MattG »

Although it hasn't been confirmed for NZ release at the time of writing, information suggests that it is highly likely that Australia and New Zealand will get local subscriber access to the DeAgostini 'Build the Millennium Falcon' partworks magazine (update - there is pretty solid information now that NZ is on the list of upcoming markets).

A few kiwis seem quite keen to get hold of this studio-scale kitset, so this thread is to share news, resources, and hopefully build details.

The magazine initially had a 5 issue test run in the UK last year. When this concluded, unfortunately a lot of people misinterpreted it as meaning that the full kit wouldn't be released. However, this market testing is in fact common for DeAgostini and partworks of this nature in general. The model underwent a few accuracy upgrades (it is being overseen by Steve Dymszo, formally of Master Replicas), and was released in the UK. Very recently the run began in the US as well. Here is the US site for the magazine: http://www.model-space.com/us/build-mil ... alcon.html

The inside cover of the recent editions of the magazine list all international Customer Support contact telephone numbers...Australia and New Zealand are among them - it is on this basis that many are optimistic that we'll see the magazine released in Australasia soon. Keep your eyes out for more information!

Here are some of the websites/pages I've been keeping an eye on.

RPF thread:
http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=209049

Rebelscum thread:
http://forum.rebelscum.com/t1108192/

Unofficial FB page:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/deagostinifalcon

Official forums, including build threads:
http://forum.buildmillenniumfalcon.com/forums/

Just note that a lot of the early discussion in the RPF and Rebelscum thread relate to the early test release (which has some different sculpting) and/or the confusion when it concluded prior to the formal release.

It's also interesting that there are a few sources for 3-D printed upgrade components via Shapeways...looks like that'd ramp the cost up quite a bit.

Really looking forward to this! It is a must have.
Especially when we get several other people building this together.

Thanks for the update.

Thanks for creating this thread Matt, it's going to be a lot of fun to follow. My budget probably won't extend as far as this particular project, so I'll be living vicariously through your own builds!

Also, if any of y'all need somewhere to store one of these when it's completed, I'd be happy to clear a little space in my display room ;)

Ditto to that, except for the storage aspect, that is until we sell our house for a bigger one :D

Steve Dymszo talks about the production of the screen-used Falcon, the MR Falcon, and the new DeAg Falcon (mostly from about the 6m10s point):

An engineering test of the remote control boarding ramp mechanism:

There wasn't any doubt DeAgostini wouldn't be there, I guess… but I'm amped to see the Falcon in the resin at Celebration!

Yeah, good point. It'll be sweet to see what they've got to show, in person.
