No I didn't clean the mold, I'm away from home with limited resources.
Also trap for young players I suppose. :)
The reaction was like the epoxy was being rejected by the mold, lifting up in various places.
I'll take pics and send them once I get back home on Monday, I'm up in turangi at the mo for a wee break. :)

pics would be good. Sounds like the epoxy is not sticking to the silicone in some places which does suggest a barrier of some kind. I'm sure you'll suss it out it always takes a few goes to get a mold working right :)

Here is my first decent pull from the mold that I have made, just a wee clean up and then start painting.
Thanks for the tips on cleaning the mold Oota.
I have two of these pre sold and another one to go to the US.
Provided everything goes as planned I should have a couple of these sorted out by end on Jan for the Tie Pilot edition of the helmet.

wow those are nice looking casts badges! Are they hollow cast? The epoxy resin looks like it's nice and strong. Good luck with the painting can't wait to see the detailing

great that you have made a couple of sales nice!

Yes they are hollow cast, approx 6 layers of epoxy for strength.
I'll try the same again on the next one but have some chux cloths embedded in the resin possibly the third layer, we'll see how things pan out.

Here is a quick update on this project, I have the flexible conduit for the helmet hoses and now have the small metal greebies.
I just have to get the helmet decals made up then I can finish the prototype with another two helmets to go soon.
