Great idea! I think that one has magnets attaching the big circle parts. And they'll use those panels to access the mechanicals, for those attempting a motorised BB
Yeah that makes sense. I reckon a harder mounting than magnets would be cool. If you want to get into the guts you'd undo the mounting plugs, remove the outer shells then open up the dome. something like that?

Has anyone made any progress on this little fella?
Don't know if anyone has seen Mike Senna's static display with puppet style working head, looks quite like a good idea.
Maybe adding a pop open panel like the data holder or thumbs up. :)

I have joined the BB-8 builders forum and have seen some incredible and different ways to build a ball.
I'm scouring the site for holo projectors, lenses, among other things.
I have also found a nice set of challenge coins and a celebration 2016 pin as well.
I have been buying the occasional arduino parts to start the process, along with dismantling laser printers for gears bearings and motors.

This would be a cool project.

I wish I had more time, though!

A friend of mine in Waikanae is looking to build a vac former, he said it would be more economical to make two at the same time, so I might be getting one of my own, all going well.
He is an arcitectual model maker with a laser cutter and 3d printer etc.
This could help with the bb8 build.
