Recommendations for supplies for Blaster Prop build

Post by Armante »

Hey everyone.

I have an old E-5 droid blaster and a new Rubies E-11 from Rebels that I want to modify some and then paint and weather.

I've read a bit about weathering techniques and am getting my head around starting with a primer undercoat, then the silvery metallic finish, followed by satin blacks and weathering then sealing with a clear overcoat etc. However I'm a newb at all this, so

My questions are

- whereabouts is the best place to buy the paints? I'd prefer just aerosol cans as I don't have an airbrush.
- which paints to get, from which manufacturer?!
- any particular product for filling and sanding gaps. I keep reading about Bondo, but I suspect that's an American product?

Any help and info, or pointing me in the right direction to a New Zealand based supplier/forum about this sort of thing will be HUGELY appreciated!

You can get everything you need from Bunnings/Mitre10/Placemakers.

"Rattle-can" paints are fine for this sort of thing...e.g., Plastikote http://search.mitre10.co.nz/search?p=Q&w=plastikote

Bondo equivalents are basically any 2-part automotive filler/builder's bog...

Just my opinion but I like using acyrlic paints so when it's time to add weathering, aging etc you can thin the paints with water making it easier for using "dry brushing" techniques.
1-Fill any gaps and screw holes
2 - Acyrlic spray can primer
3-Acyrlic spray can base color
4- Tamiya acrylic paints (hobbie shop) & soft brush for weathering
5- have fun! Worst case if you're not happy, hit it with another coat of your base color & try again

Thanks very much Matt and Postie!
Really appreciate the info. It gives me something to go on.

I reckon I'll practise on the E-5 as it doesn't really matter if I screw up too much, but I don't want to mess up the E-11 ;)

Hi All, is there anyone locally that sells the Rubies E-11 blaster?
My only alternative now is Amazon.

Sweet thanks,

I will order a couple from Amazon, so I can try different methods of conversions on these.

How much are you getting them for Edward? And cost of shipping? Might be cheaper if we combine forces? :)

I love Google. $34.97 is decently priced.
