'STEVEN' Pit Droid

I wanted to see what my modelling talents might be like using off-cut wood from work. I set to work a few months ago making a pit droid. Obviously, not screen actuate, but very recognisable in the SW universe.

I'm pleased with the result so far. still some finishing touches to be added. Covers to hide the nuts and bolts, as we all know they don't exist in the SW universe. A bit more weathering and I'll be happy.

Building from scratch and making my own patterns, I was impressed that it stands on its own. But 1cm too short. Should have made the aerial longer. Bahaha.

Next build, I'll spend a lot more time on accuracy. But for now, I'm winning over more kids in the neighbourhood to Star Wars.

My quarter scale X-Wing and 1:1 'Naked' C3PO are slowly (very slowly) coming along.

Thanks Matt and Kiwi HW. I've made the cabinet of sorts. Still deciding the interior look. I was very taken with your hard concrete look. (Sorry if I described it badly). Just need to find the time to finish. 10-12 hour work days doesn't leave much time for Star Wars.

What's on your workbench? 1 x Star Destroyer

Just started a scratch build Star Destroyer (105x67cm) a few weeks ago. Not having a 3d printer nor wishing to purchase plethora of expensive model kits to kit-bash, I'm slowly moving to that point of how to add all the surface detail, the leading edge detail and the engines. I guess that's going to be the fun of it.. Being an true magpie of greeblies, I'm sure the detailing will just happen when I start searching through my greebly collection.

Youtubers like The Smugglers Room are truly inspirational when it come to thinking and looking outside of the box!

Anyone else out there who's come across the same issue, detailing such a beast?

Superb work! Great to see real 'old school' modelling like this. Looking forward to see how you solve the greeblie issue.

With lvl-4 lockdown upon us in Auckland, I had some time to work on the Star Destroyer. A lot of time, but running out of supplies; modelling cement in particular. And need putty to start closing up joints so that I continue to detail the fuselage. Just a few more hours notice Jacinda would have been appreciated!

Anyway, some good progress has been made. The PVC foam board, which the main body is made from is an excellent sub straight however it marks and dents easily. I'm hoping those marks can be a/. covered up with putty, b/. covered over with weathering or c/. highlighted as crash marks with other imperial ships!

In researching the design, I discovered that there's an awful lot of variations to the Star Destroyer out there, even between Ep's IV and V. I'm getting inspiration from movie stills, the Randy Cooper model and a model that featured at the Where Science Meets Imagination' show in the States.

About to start working on the engine bay. There's a lot of angles in there. Should be either fun or frustrating.
