Hey all after some encouragement I have had a second look at my helmet forms and thanks to the generosity of Fredstar in lending me his unbuilt AP helmet I've decided to make a few changes to my forms
There are roughly 12 or so of the 'version 1' helmets floating around the local 501st garrison and a few more in the hands of private collectors. I'm pretty happy with this helmet it's a more symmetrical version of the tk bucket but I think it captures the feel and style of the piece well.
But there's always room for improvement so as much as possible I will attempt to do modifications to my faceplate form that involves taking away material from the existing shape. I'm a little reluctant to add material because that means using bog on resin and that means you've got materials that have a different hardness and that can cause a lot of pain when vac forming.
So I'm looking to do the following:
reduce the eye border pieces from the current 14mm to 12.5mm. This might not seem like much (it isn't) but it will make a subtle change to the look. Also thin down the flaring a bit
flatten down the nose a wee bit and take maybe 2mm off the top
lift the brow line of the face plate by about 2mm
widen the tear drop to along the bottom by 2mm or 3mm
scoop the bottom side tube out just a wee bit.
straighten up the teeth and widen the mouth by about 2mm
I might add a wee bit to the upper mouth part, maybe 1mm or 1.5mm just to fatten this out a bit.
ok that's about it really. Here are a few first pics of the kind of thing I'm doing. I've actually started but can't find my damned progress pic
ok as always C and C is more than welcome

Wow, just looking at the adjustments on your form, as you have said not much taken off but it will make for a change.
I look forward to the new and improved V.2

Thanks badges yeah I am going to have to work carefully with these changes I reckon. It's really easy to muck up a sculpt like this by changing things around too much and this form is my master so it's going to be interesting indeed!badges2nz wrote:Wow, just looking at the adjustments on your form, as you have said not much taken off but it will make for a change.

Re: OGA helmet version 2!
Hi Oota,
A few of my thoughts on improving your (already impressive) helmet.
I feel that the jaw box spreads too much and would benefit from being smaller
this image has your helmet in red tones and the Ap Helmet in blue (combined from this image http://s68.photobucket.com/user/thehifl ... b.jpg.html)
I think the Ap helmet is well regarded for shape?
One of the things that strike me is that the "cheek line" from below the tear drops to the front of the helmet is nearly a straight line in the movie helmets where the OGA helmet splays out at the front. which in turn leads to the tubes being too fat
I hope something there is of use.
Put me down for a mkII too!

The T-H-X account is six percent over budget. The case is to be terminated.

Might be prudent to make a cast of your master and work on that?
