And a look at the closure method I used for the calf armour.
I personally did not like the thickness of the Velcro strip method of joining the back of the calves.
Instead I glued two strips to one side of the calf back, the inner "reinforcement" strip and the outer decorative strip. The other side of the calf is sandwiched between these two strips. The sandwich has some tension resistance. The calf closes on rare earth magnets attached to the top and bottom. The magnets are placed outside of the joining tab because they are too powerful if the touch each other and because they are brittle and I don't want them to break. The lower join also has interior Velcro to prevent ankle flexion from opening the armour.

That looks like a very tidy system.

Hi all,
Here is a first test fit of my components. Only the thighs have any rigging.
It is apparent that I will have to trim the bottom of the thighs at the back for knee movement.
The back and abdomen are being held by the belt (thanks fredstar)
At the moment the chest sits out too wide at the bottom ( but there is no rigging yet).
Constructive criticism welcome.
Oh and the belt slipped down a bit ( not held in with snaps yet)

Hey man sorry somehow I missed this thread :(

Your armour looks great to me looks like it's very form fitting. With the lower back just check how much it;s bending when you belt it on. If it has to bend alot to fit your body you might want to consider some heat bending to increase the curve. I am going to the same on mine!

nice work dude

No Worries Oota. I was probably a bit premature posting that pic anyway. The abdo is crooked (because it is not yet attached to the back). In fact I'm a bit shy of trimming it at the sides as I don't want to get it wrong.
Since the pic I have attached the knee plate (I spread the channel a little with some careful work with the pliers).
I have also curved the knee ammo belt and trimmed the ends ready for attachment.
The thighs had extra material removed from the rear to fit my legs better and actually do have a rig attached!
I was hoping to finish for amageddon Christchurch, but was way short, so I've take off a couple of weeks from making the suit.
Back to it soon though.

A few more WIP shots for May the 4th.

this is mainly for a test fit.
I will shorten the shoulder straps (slightly).

I thought I could get away without having straps from the calf to the thigh, but the calf sits too low so straps will be needed (and to keep them centred.

abodo is off centre from walking around as it still needs right side snap done.

still to do:
finish left fore arm
fit pouches below belt.
fix holster to belt.
fit ammo belt to right thigh.
fit retailing strap chest to abdo
fit cod/ butt strap
glue chest buttons.
paint helmet "vents"
fit fan to helmet (fogged up in two minutes)
add wires to blaster

Hmm, shoulder straps sitting too high, any suggestions?
