I don't know if anyone has been watching this show, but here's what I thought was a delightfully positive and entertaining article about what is different about this reboot/update of a classic show vs what was done with the Star Trek films recently. I have to say (and admit that I am biased on this one because my colleagues make TBirds) I agree with the author on every point.

Agreed (and that's a great read, too).

I've never understood why so many pre-existing characters and franchises need to have an origin story.

It's just poor storytelling.
